On the Issues

Over the past two years, Mayor Flanagan has taken significant steps to improve Fall River's educational system and ensure that the city's schools are creating an educated workforce.  Under Flanagan's leadership, Fall River completed a district improvement plan that emphasizes college and career readiness.  The school system partnered with Northeastern University to allow Fall River students to take online courses. And the city partnered with Teach for America to help ensure educational opportunity in the school system.

Since taking office in January 2010, Mayor Flanagan has stabilized the city’s bond rating to make it more attractive for long-term investment.  He finalized the long-awaited agreement with UMass Dartmouth to create a Fall River BioPark, and bring as many as 8,000 jobs to Fall River.  He brought TPI Composites back to Fall River, to help anchor the city's growing green jobs sector.  And he crafted new partnerships with Bristol Community College and UMass Dartmouth to expand workforce training programs.

Over the past two years, Mayor Flanagan's administration has worked to improve the quality of life for Fall River residents.

Flanagan has targeted abandoned property for seizure, and sought to hold negligent property owners responsible for improving their properties.  He has proposed tripling the fine for littering, in an effort to keep Fall River streets clean.  Flanagan's administration has begun erasing illegal graffiti, to remove blight from the city streets.
