MAYOR WILL FLANAGAN ENDORSED BY AFL-CIO MA, SOUTHEASTERN MASS BUILDING TRADES COUNCIL, SEIU
Fall River, MA – Fall River Mayor William Flanagan this morning was officially endorsed by the AFL-CIO of Massachusetts, the Southeastern Mass Building Trades Council, Carpenters Local 1305, UAL Local 51, Bricklayers and Allied Craftsworkers Local 3, IBEW Local 2322, and SEIU 1199.
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of these tremendous organizations,” Flanagan said. “It is especially humbling to receive this endorsement so close to Labor Day, when we remember and honor the efforts of union workers.”
Flanagan added, “Without the AFL-CIO and other unions, there would be no holidays, no vacations, no health care, no maternity leaves, no lunch breaks, and no child labor laws. I will never forget these accomplishments, and will always stand with the men and women of the labor movement to save the middle class and stand up for our workers.”
At a press conference this morning at the Carpenters Local 1305 union hall on Bedford Street, Ron Rheaume, business manager for 1305, noted, “Nobody can turn Fall River around in two years. We need to give Will a chance to continue his plan to grow jobs and improve this city for our kids.”
“Will Flanagan is the kind of leader this city needs,” said James Pimental, business agent for Bricklayers Local 3. “We need somebody who is bold, who is willing to take chances, and who has what it takes to bring good jobs back to Fall River.”
Flanagan was honored in 2011 as the AFL-CIO’s Person of the Year in Massachusetts, and, in a letter announcing its endorsement of Flanagan, the Building Trades Council wrote, “we recognize and appreciate that you are truly a defender and constant fighter for social and economic justice for all working men and women.”
